Based on what most people said they would need; fresh
water and septic service will be available every other day beginning
on Sept 19, weather permitting. Plan ahead. Please remember, that someone MUST be present when the service is provided. It is a bit "inconvenient" not knowing exactly when the service truck will be at your camper, but you will need to figure out how to be there or have some else there. Services will be paid for at delivery time. Checks or cash are acceptable |
RV parking reservation for the USBCHA 2004 National Sheepdog Finals |
|
In an effort to be better prepared to handle RV
needs and parking requests, the Host Committee is asking handlers to
make a “reservation” if one intends to park on the Sturgis trial
grounds. One may park either on the gravel or on the grass. This
“reservation” is not etched in stone, and one may change his mind.
The Host Committee just needs a rough idea of where people prefer to
park and how many RV’s will be using the Sturgis site. Please keep in mind that should
Sturgis receive enough moisture to cause vehicles coming and going to
tear up or rut the hay meadow, RVs will not be able to be moved until
the ground is firm. Trucks and other transportation vehicles will also
be asked to park on gravel until the meadow dries sufficiently to not
rut. Those not honoring the Inclement Weather Parking Plan will be
asked to move “camp”, when weather permits, to a campground or RV
park elsewhere in Sturgis. |

Suggestions: Can
you think of any way we can make your RV parking experience more
enjoyable while at the 2004 Finals? |
Potable
water for campers, dog water, and septic pumping will be available in the
Handler RV Parking area (weather permitting). Someone familiar with the camper
MUST be present when water and/or
septic services are provided. If you are not at your camper when the service
tech comes by, special arrangements will not be made to get your camper needed
services. Because of the need to get service people and vehicles to the
campers, we need to keep some ‘”lanes” or “roads” open. This year
the lanes will be one way – starting at the west end of the meadow and go
east. You will also need to display a numbered flag/sign to facilitate folks
finding you. We will provide the sign. Even though you may not want any water
or septic service, we still need to know where people are parked should there
be an emergency.
You
may park in groups or clusters, but the service vehicle must be able to reach
your fresh water input and/or your black and gray tanks without leaving the
road or lane. Service vehicles will not be able to “drive round” to find a
way to service your camper. When you park, be aware of where your service
valves are as the service truck has an approximate 70’ hose to reach your
camper. If you park in a group or cluster, each camper will need a number, and
the service truck needs to be able to reach each camper. Payment must be made
at time of service. Checks and/or cash accepted. There will be a sign up sheet
in the check-in booth.
Generators:
As
a courtesy to fellow handlers, we ask that generators be off by 10 p.m. and
not on before 5:00 a.m. If you have medical needs for generators and the above
hours are not acceptable, we ask you to use one of the full service RV parks.
Please!
No Open Fires
And
lastly, the Fort is a residence for many. As you come and go on their
residential streets, please be as courteous as you would like others to be if
they were driving through your neighborhood.
Please
read and understand the INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN. It will be strictly enforced.
Should
Sturgis receive a great deal of moisture, we will need to go to an INCLEMENT
WEATHER PLAN. The City has asked us to protect their hay meadow if they
receive enough moisture that would result in “ruts” being made by removal
of a camper or vehicle from the grassy RV parking area.
Should
you anticipate needing to pull your camper out and you think it may be muddy
when you do that, you will need to move it to the graveled parking area or one
of the RV full service parks in the area prior
to it getting too muddy to move your RV. If
you will make ruts as you pull out, you will be asked to wait for the ground
to dry out before leaving. If it’s too muddy to move vehicles out, the
service truck will not be able to get in. Plan ahead! (Remember Oklahoma!)
Should
it be muddy, but you do not need to move your RV, you will need to park your
transportation vehicle on the gravel and walk to your RV.
Park your RV’s accordingly.
You
may also choose to use one of the RV parks and avoid any delays or
inconveniences because of wet weather or other considerations. Lamphere’s RV
Park is a major sponsor and about a mile from the trial site.
The City of Sturgis offers a grassy hay
meadow as well as a graveled area on which to park RVs. The hay meadow is west
of the trial field and the graveled area is just north of the hay meadow.
There are two ways to access the RV and
Handler parking areas. The most direct and easiest route is through the main
spectator parking gate which runs through BLM property and in to the City
Property. There will be a sign which states: “Spectator Entrance”, and is
just past the main entrances into the Fort. You will see a row of individual
state and Canadian flags. The road is a wide, newly graveled, all-weather road
and allows even the most cautious RV parker a very easy route in which to park
their RV. This is the route we prefer people use if they come in prior to the
start of the Nursery running or while the trial field is not in use. As this
road also runs through a part of the trial field, it will not
be accessible when the trial field is in use. However, when the trial field is
not in use, it is the most direct way to the main highway.
Which brings us to the second route in
to the RV and Handler parking area. This route comes through Ft. Meade. The
road is paved, but is a little narrower and windier then the BLM route. The
road is very adequate and very do-able to get an RV through. The entrance will be signed posted – “Handlers Only”.
Once in the Fort, simply follow the signs. This is the route to use to come
and go from the RV area and Handler Parking Area while the trial field is in
use. Ft. Meade houses quite a few veterans in the homes on the grounds, so we
need to be courteous as we come and go through the residential portions of the
Fort.
Unfortunately, due to a large number of
“non-handlers” requesting to park on the trial grounds, we must limit RV
parking to “Handlers” and sponsors only.
Tent camping is welcomed, but also
limited to Handlers and sponsors.
Portable toilets will be available.
Trash bins will also be available.
