Nursery scores
We are on our way to a great start.  We had a little rain the last couple days but today is perfect!  Today our judges are Elvin Kopp and Angie Coker making the combined total possible score of 180 points.   The field has a slight incline allowing the dogs to see the sheep.  The sheep are a little heavy which requires the dogs to push a bit.  @10: 43 a.m. we are posting our fist set of scores.  check scores here

Well that's it for today, the sheep stayed consistent all day, they needed a push to move and were a little cantankerous at the pen.  It was exciting to watch.

Stay tuned as the drama unfolds! (these guys are good)

Nursery scores

1:51 P.M.Well the horse race is definitely on.  The Dogs are working good today and we are seeing some good work.  The field is big and the sheep are a good challenge.   The question is can someone beat the Ralph ??  Everyone with a score over 100 has a chance but Alasdair  and Larry Adams have the best shot.  But never overlook Amanda and Anita... not to mention what could be in the mind of Scott Glen (who by the way has dominated the field so far today with a high score of 148) or anyone else with a 100 or better score.  (remember these guys are good and none of them will roll over)  stay tuned!
4:35 P.M. = Amanda and Scott Glen had a good go, but it wasn't enough to take over Ralph Pulfer and Dennis Gellings ... but it's not over yet...

Congratulations to our 2003 Nursery USBCHA  Sheepdog Champions
Champion = Ralph Pulfer & Gale
Reserve Champion = Dennis Gellings & Jan

1:45 p.m.  The rain has stopped but it is COLD COLD COLDWe have run 20 dogs so far and the scores at the top are tight. So this is going to be tough!

5:30 p.m.  Yikes the weather is awful..  It started raining hard again and with this wind and cold we are freezing.

6:00 p.m.  Rain stopped and now it is drizzle with flakes of snow and sleet!!  And the dogs are still running.

Open scores

Total Possible Score for today is 200 - two judges

10:00 a.m. This morning we came to the field to a cold temperature of 39 but since then the sun is trying to come out and it is about 49 right now.  Still windy and feels cold but nothing compared to yesterday.  We now have 55 runs in and we will begin to watch the cutoff score for the Semi-finals.  Which is now 61 and is sure to move up rapidly.

12:33 p.m.  With 60 runs completed our new cut off is 70 and moving up fast!

3:51 p.m.  The weather is much better now, still a little cold, but the dogs are loving it.  We now have 76 runs completed and our new cut off is 102!  It's getting tough out there.

5:40 p.m.  The weather is just beautiful now and should be for the rest of the trial.
At 84 runs completed the new cut off is 109!

6:45 P.M.  We got through 96 runs today and our cut off is now 114.   We have chosen to run to a standard.

Open scores

Total Possible Score for today is 200 - two judges

11:00 A.M  The weather is stunning.  Everything is starting off just perfect.  Our cut off is now 124

3:00 p.m.
It's nail biting time!
The sheep are challenging the dogs on the drive and they require a lot of push, especially on the cross drive.  We have run 129 dogs and our cut off is also 129 .   The standard is calling it's victims.  It might be the heat on the sheep but they sure are getting stubborn.

8:00 p.m. We have our 45 Finalist for Saturday with the cut off 131.

Semi Final scores

Judges for today Elvin Kopp and Angie Coker    .

Throw those scores away and we start over with our 45 finalists.

The degree of difficulty has increased for today's competition with the handlers working 5 sheep. Of the five sheep, two are marked.  The sheep are brought to the shedding ring where the handler sheds 2 unmarked sheep, puts them back together, pens 5, brings all 5 back to the shed ring and singles one marked sheep.   Total score 220 (110 per judge)   Plenty of time is given to the handlers to finish and a lot of good work is done. Our judges for today are Elvin Kopp and Angie Coker

Running order for Saturday
10:15 p.m.  The weather is beautiful, light wind.  Our first set of runs are very good with the sheep co-operating more this morning.

2:00 p.m.  We are close to half way through and will be looking for our cut off soon.  We are taking side bets on what you think it will be.  Send in your guess  of what score you think will be the cut off for the top 20 today to  kiogle@att.net before 3:00 and we will post the average to see how close we  get.

3:00 pm   WOW  What a surprise we had lots of guesses from 135 to 194  and the average is  161..   let's see.....

The wind is picking up right now which is adding a degree of difficulty to our handlers but the sheep are cooperating very well today.  This is the second re-run for the sheep and I think they are beginning to figure this deal out.  They are penning good and shed off just like they are supposed to.   The spectators are great -  filling all the stands and we sure are enjoying this trial.

3:15 p.m.   We are now through 30 dogs right now and our first cut off score is 151.  Sometimes we skip a score and that is because for various reasons the running order was updated and our website still holds the original running order.

Also, at the end of today and especially at the end of tomorrow, there will be a delay in posting the last scores.  Reason being, we can't post those scores until we are absolutely sure they are correct.  So we check, check and recheck in hopes to get it correct.     It also keeps all you folks on the edge!!!!

6:30 p.m. We have the last few scores coming in but we will not post them until we finalize everything.   So will the 163 cut off hold??  And if it does which 163 will be in and who will be out.   Stay Tuned.

8:30 p.m. The cut off ended up at 165 with Anita Young's 165 beating out Leo Woodbury's 165.   The running order has been drawn and you can get it  here.

Be sure to thank our sponsors - we couldn't do it without them!

Scores top 20

Judges for today Elvin Kopp , Angie Coker,  Kent Kuykendall and Bobby Henderson,   .

Once again we are cranking up the degree of difficultly to the supreme level, adding the double lift and the international shed.  For details on the course and the points click here  Today we have four judges scoring 170 each for a total of 680 possible points.

Has anyone noticed the coincidence of the top 20?   We have two married couples vying
for the covenant trophy.  Jack & Kathy Knox and Bruce & Linda Fogt.   I wonder what their conversations were last night.  Could we see a couple in first and second?   That would be hard as the rest of the field are at their best and everyone one of these dogs could walk away with it all.  Top 20

10:00 a.m.   It is a great day for trialing, weather is perfect.  Today the first outrun will cast to the left for a 600 yard pickup of 10 sheep, our second outrun will cast to the right for 580 yards for another 10 sheep and the dog will finish the course with 20 sheep. They have 30 minutes for each run.   These sheep are tough and some are not at all intimidated by the dogs.   They stop and face the dogs and in two cases yesterday the sheep blindsided the dogs in the shed ring.    When the dog went to take a single one of the sheep that was shed turned on the dog when he tried to hold the single.  We got to see a lot of "legal gripping" which is not often allowed.   These dogs have to be very careful just to turn the sheep back and not to get a DQ.    We saw some terrific dog work yesterday and are expecting the same today.

We just got our first set of scores in and Wow  Ralph has already taken the lead with a score of 406!

10:45 a.m.  We have a new leader!!!!!    Scores
Some of you have been intrigued by the fact that two couples are in the top 20.   Here is an unusual fact...   In the year 2000 not only did one person have two dogs in the top 20 but that person also came in 1st and 2nd which had never been done before.  Can you guess who it is?  Answer     Want to take a walk back on memory lane...   Visit some of these past finals to see who was in the top 20. (we only have the ones since we have been doing the web site... enjoy)    2002  2001  2000 .

12:00 p.m.
We just had intermission and celebrated the national anthem of the United States and Canada.  We penned about 10 sheep and a border collie carrying the flags circled  the pen while the anthems were sung.   Always a moving moment.

12:30 p.m.  At the end of six runs our top score is  still 420 and no one so far has completed the shed.   These sheep are very cantankerous.

2:00 p.m.  We have a new leader!  It's nail biting time now and we have a lot of great dogs to run.  stay tuned!

3:00 p.m.  Starting to drizzle and pretty windy.

5:30 p.m.  The sheep are winning their way in the shedding ring with no dog nor human able to complete the shed after 15 runs.

6:30 p.m.  With 3 more runs to go Alasdair & Bill are still in the lead with  a score of 442 and Julie Mathews & Moss  are second with a score of 434.   Can our last three dethrone these two who have held  their lead  since the 7th run?    We all know that the answer is yes, John Fontaine and Dudley deserved to be on this list with  his good run of yesterday, and has a good chance at the title.   Lyle Lad is always a threat when put in this position and then there is Bruce Fogt who won this event twice, once in 1987 with Hope and then  in 1992 with Molly.      Click here for  a list of all past winners since 1979

Would you believe no one yet has  gotten the shed.   And it looks like it will take that to win.

7:50 p.m.  We have a winner!  Scores

It was a great trial!  See you all next year.
