Scott Glen grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Alberta, Canada. His family used dogs for stock work only minimally but when Scott was in his early 20’s he started to raise a flock of sheep. On his way to a shearing class he was distracted by a sheepherding demo and has been hooked on herding ever since. Scott’s main mentor is the USBCHA’s many time, national champion, Alasdair MacRae. Pleat is a 5yr old tri colored male who was born and bred on Scott’s Canadian farm. His name comes from the cowlick in the hair between his eyes that looks like a pleat in a pair of pants. His father was Scott’s Dan who was a top trial dog for Scott for many years. In 2000 Scott was the Canadian National Champion with Dan and reserve champion with Dan’s half sister Fly. (Dan and Fly share Scott’s Sweep dog as a father) In 2001, the same year that Dan won Seclusival and the Bluegrass, he went deaf from an accident and Fly stepped up and was the USBCHA reserve national champion. Pleat’s mother was a female named Kelly who goes back to Dodie Green’s Soot and Bobby Dalziel’s Dryden Joe. Scott only owned her for a short time before he sold her to Ken MacKenzie in Northern Alberta, but bred Dan to her because he said, “she was one of the bravest dogs I ever saw.” Pleat was a good nursery dog, winning “Most promising Nursery dog” at the 2001 Bluegrass and won the North American Sheepdog Championship in California in 2003 as an open dog. “Pleat is a dog that comes alive when he is on sheep. It may not always be great but it will always be exciting, and you will never fall asleep when handling him”, says Scott. In addition to working sheep, Pleat has also shown to be a strong cattle dog. However, with the busy trial schedule that Scott keeps, he hasn’t had a lot of time to trial on cattle. Pleat has a few young offspring out there such as Sam Furman’s Buff and Sherry Purcell’s Penny, who are following in their father’s footsteps and showing great promise as nursery dogs and a few of his pups are also showing that they inherited their fathers adeptness on cattle. |

Scott Glenn & Tala |

Tala is a 5yr old tri colored female that, until this year’s National Finals, was owned by Andrea Haydn. She was born on Scott Glen’s Canadian farm and is a littermate to Scott’s Pleat. Andrea picked her name which means, “stalking wolf” in Blackfoot and started her early training. She turned Tala over to Scott 2yrs ago and he finished her training and started trialing her in the open class. In 2003 Tala was the reserve Canadian champion and earned the “best shed” trophy. In 2004 Tala really shined and was ahead of Pleat most of the year, winning both days of the Woodbury’s Powder Horn Classic, and one day of the Mitt’s Dry Creek trial. Again in 2004, Tala was the reserve Canadian champion and again captured the “Best Shed” trophy. Scott says, “ Tala is a biddable, honest dog who moves sheep with authority. Around the house she is quiet, but has a sense of humor.” Right before the 2004 USBCHA national finals, Andrea sold Tala to Ronda Jensen of Montana. Scott ran her in the finals and when it was over Tala went to her new home where she is happily fitting in with Ronda and her family. Ronda hopes to breed Tala this Christmas and Scott plans to start all over again with one of her pups.
