Jake
Craig Rogers
and Jake
(ABC 227259) are a relatively new team. Craig
began his stock dog trailing career after getting his first stock dog, Mirk, in December 2002. Jake became Craig's second partner in September
2003. Jake brought Craig to the Open ranks in sheep dog trials in June
2004 and to cattle dog trials in November of 2004.
Jake was acquired from Alasdair MacRae and Bobby Ford after being run in
the 2002 USBCHA Sheep Dog Nursery Finals by Scott Glenn. In his brief
Open career he has won the 2005 Okeechobee Sheep Dog Trial Overall
Championship. He will be entered in the 2005 USBCHA Sheepdog Finals for
the first time.
Jake is Canadian bred and goes back to Dale Montgomery's Jeans Gyp (ABC
42205) who is the mother of Kent Kuykendall's Roc (ABC 147968) now owned
by Earl Warrick. Gyp is one of the winningest cattle dogs in history
with over $30,000 in purse awards and 3-time Calagary Stampede Champion.
On the bottom side of Jake's pedigree is Scott Glen's Sweep (AIBC 65649)
who is the grandfather to the 2004 USBCHA Sheepdog Champion, Pleat, and
Reserve Champion, Tala.
Craig and Jake live on a 60-acre farm in Patrick Springs, Virginia at
the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They raise Katahdin sheep and have
about
25 brood cows. They live with Joan, an agility enthusiast who also
enjoys doing her farm chores with Drift (from Anita Young). Craig also
runs two other dogs, Celt (Gina Kirwan's Toss (ABC 82411) x Rusty
Krieder's Dally (ABC 49155)) and Luke; all on sheep and cattle; with
several young dogs on the way.
